Keep Trusting
These two pages in my bible journal aren’t the most artistic, rather a brief summary of some time I spent thinking about these chapters in the book of Esther. We had spent some time thinking about Esther in an online creative group I’m part of, asking many questions of the passage, and I then created these pages.
If you look closely, you’ll notice that I use two colours - a lighter yellow and a more orangey yellow. The lighter yellow is only used on the left hand page, highlighting something Mordecai says to Esther “And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” I then have written the words ‘Who Knows?’ on the left hand side in that same light yellow. We tend to hope or believe that yes, God had placed Esther there for that particular time, so that she could be an advocate for her people, God’s people. The words ‘Who Knows?’ is really an expression of the truth that we cannot know for certain, only God does really. There are lots of things about God that we cannot know for certain, so we have to trust instead. Esther found herself in a particular position, and whether God had placed her there or not, she had to trust God. That’s what the orangey yellow colour highlights in the text- all the things that happened as Esther sought to stand up for her people. The words on the right hand side are ‘Keep Walking, Keep Trusting’, for when we are not certain, we have to keep on trusting and hoping, and doing what we think is right.
