God is waiting for you to find her

Painting in a simple style of two hills with a triangular shaped tree trunk, with the leaves of the tree a black and white pattern in a circle. The words 'God is waiting for you to find her' are to the right of the tree.

Most of my paintings are created as a response to prayer, as a response to what is going on in my life. This painting though is slightly different. I created it as an Art Blessing, to be given away. I chose the wording ‘God is waiting for you to find her’ deliberately, hoping it might connect with some, knowing it wouldn’t connect with others.

We traditionally use the pronoun ‘he’ when talking about God. God the Father, God the Son, both male, but God the Spirit can be found as female in the bible. God isn’t male or female, God is both, God encompasses all genders. Choosing to use the pronoun ‘her’ on this piece challenges us to consider who God is. It challenges us to consider what we have previously thought we knew about God, and that perhaps there is more to explore and know.

I’m sure that the people who haven’t liked this piece haven’t said anything to me about it, but I do get a positive reaction from it from time to time. Women who exclaim delightedly “Yes”, as they see their gender reflected in who God is. They often want to take more than one copy of this Art Blessing to share with their friends, and I am delighted to be able to let them do so.
