Bible Journaling
I first bought a journaling bible in 2018, with the desire to try creative bible journaling. I had seen many examples on the internet and it seemed like something I would enjoy. This page on 1 Corinthians 13 was my first attempt.
I spent time reading the page, noticing what stood out to me. I then used blending inks for the background colours to highlight particular areas. I added detail with colouring pencils, highlighting particular words with shapes (one, love) and a verse (12v28). I then used the wide margin space to write the meaning that had stood out to me that day and then added the border of people (as I thought the page still needed something else, and I hadn’t really drawn anything!).
I’ve drawn / painted / coloured many different pages in my bible journal since then, some of which I’ll share here in the future. Sometimes I choose a passage almost at random, other times I’ll create something because a particular passage has been significant recently. It isn’t something I do regularly, more when the mood takes me.
The gift of bible journaling for me is the finished product. In difficult times I will pick the bible journal up and begin to flick through it, finding pages that make me smile, finding reminders of what God has said in the past, and most of all finding pages that speak of God’s love.
