Like a tree planted by water

A drawing in oil pastel of a tree by a stream on a page of the bible. Jeremiah 17 v 7-8 are kept clean, with the green of the tree around them.

This bible journal page is similar to the image I shared last week ‘Blown in the wind’, both use a similar metaphor of the tree. This bible passage in Jeremiah 17 has been a favourite of mine for at least the last ten years or so. I’ve highlighted verses 7 and 8 as I’ve drawn the leaves around them. They describe how a tree planted by the stream is able to withstand heat and drought. Likewise, if we keep close to God, we are able to withstand life’s difficulties. It’s a metaphor I use quite often, that the roots of the tree keep us strong, hold us in times of trouble. These verses point to how it also matters where the tree is planted. It reminds me to pray daily, to keep my roots in God, to trust in God, no matter what.

The bible journal page was created with oil pastels. I simply drew a tree next to a stream. I like the intensity of colour that the oil pastels give. I don’t often use oil pastels, and I think this is the only bible journal page where I’ve used them.
