The Whisper of the Waves

I love living by the sea. I, like many people find that walking by the sea is a calming experience. Many years ago, at what was a hectic time, I found myself driving from Croydon to Brighton one Sunday afternoon, just for a walk by the sea. It was what I needed to do. I often pray by the sea, and below is an extract from my prayer journal, written as if God was speaking to me.

“As each wave arrives at the shore, hear my heart crying ‘I love you, Alice I love you.’ And like the crashing waves, it is never ending. Nothing can stop it, they come and I cry ‘I love you, Alice I love you.’ Wave after wave, moment after moment, for that is what you need to hear. ‘I love you, Alice I love you.’ And as the waves continue for eternity, so does my love, it is always there for you, even when you are not aware of it. You just need to make time to listen, just like you make time to visit the sea. ‘I love you, Alice I love you.’”

I’m not a great songwriter, but once every few years I feel inspired to write a song, and this was one of those occasions. I hope you find the idea of the waves being a never ending source of love helpful, just like I do.

As the ocean waves break upon the shore
Your heart breaks open with love for me
And each wave crashes and fades away
I hear you whisper ‘I love you’.

The whisper of the waves
Tell me of your never ending love
The whisper of the waves
Calm my soul
The whisper of the waves
I could listen all day
The whisper of the waves
Is your love for me.
