Beauty comes from the roots

Painting of roots with different colour blossom flowers on them, all on a blue background.

This piece started life as something I painted in the Art Group I run locally. Each time the Art Group meets, I introduce a theme which we reflect on a bit before creating something in response. The theme for this session was Beauty. As I thought about where true beauty comes from, I considered how beauty is deep within us, it comes from the roots of who we are. And so I drew the roots of a tree, and then little flowers as blossom (which we all know are beautiful) on those roots. My husband loves the fact that you can turn this painting upside down and it looks like the branches of the tree with the blossom on.

I wonder what you consider to be beautiful? Do you struggle to identify how you are beautiful? The media tells us that beauty is all about our appearance - our skin, our bodies, our faces, our teeth, our clothes. But I believe that beauty is not found in those things, but in love and kindness, in who you are, in your personality, in your talents. Yes, there may be things about yourself that you’d like to change, but think about the core of who you are - that is where you’ll find beauty.

Most paintings that I create in the hour we have at Art Group end up being recycled - they’re small pieces created in the moment, and are made for enjoyment. However, occasionally, I create something that I think is worth working on and sharing. I’ve sold this A4 original painting, but you can get a print for yourself as part of the postcard set ‘Food for the Soul’ which you will find here.
