Live in the moment
This is one of my popular Art Blessings - pieces of art that I give away. I know how helpful it can be to live in the present moment, rather than get stuck in replaying the past in our minds, or worrying about the future. It is very easy to miss out on the enjoyment of life because we’re constantly worrying.
Living in the present moment isn’t easy, but it is something I try to do with the help of practicing mindfulness. Each morning I do a mindfulness meditation, focusing on the present moment. It might be that I focus on my breath, or sensations in my body, but the daily practice builds the skill of returning my focus to the present moment each time it wanders (which it does, many times!)
In moments of anxiety or overthinking, when I’m aware I’m missing out on the enjoyment of life, I will often use the phrase “savour the moment”, saying it to myself as I bring my focus back to the present moment. It reminds me to enjoy the present moment, to savour and enjoy the life I have, rather than wasting it worrying.
