Noah
I belong to a creative online group that I meet with regularly. One of our regular practices is to tell a story from the bible, start to wonder about it with a few well chosen questions, create something in response in 30 minutes and return to share our creations. This picture of Noah was created in one of those sessions.
The story for the session was obviously Noah and the ark, and I was considering how he must have felt as he walked off the ark onto dry land again. It was a fresh start in a way, both for Noah and the world. Noah also looks a bit bedraggled, tired and worn out by all that has gone before. The land looks fresh and green (and empty), a blank canvas. I thought it was a good piece of art to share as we approach the new year. Perhaps you may like to consider what the start of a new year means to you.
With only 30 minutes to create this piece, I wasn’t attempting a masterpiece. Sometimes these small creations go on to be developed into something bigger and better, but there was something about the quality of this little sketched Noah that I really liked, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to repeat it if I tried to recreate it. The picture spent a long time on my noticeboard, reminding me of the session and the opportunity for a fresh start that each new day brings. I’ve included it in my pack of postcards ‘Food for the Soul’, which you can find here, and it includes questions on the back to encourage you to think about what you need to leave behind and the fresh start you need.
